His professional journey began in 2009 as a Field Officer with Synergy Biotechnologies. Starting at an entry-level position gave him firsthand exposure to the realities of farming. Today, Omkar serves as the Chief Techno Commercial Manager at Krishna Valley Agrotech, leading operations across India and international markets. His role combines technical expertise, strategic planning, product development, marketing, and farmer outreach, enabling him to bridge the gap between scientific agricultural advancements and practical field implementation.
What inspired Omkar to enter agriculture was a concern he observed repeatedly across farming communities. His mother, Dr. Indu Sawant, former Director of the National Research Centre for Grapes, Pune, provided deep insights into bio-pesticides, fungicides, and sustainable agricultural practices.
In addition, he has drawn inspiration from distinguished agricultural leaders and scientists including Dr. Solomon, former Vice Chancellor of Kanpur University; Dr. A. D. Pathak, former Director of the Indian Institute of Sugarcane Research, Lucknow; and Dr. D. G. Hapse, former Director of the Vasantdada Sugar Institute, Pune. Their guidance helped shape his technical understanding and strengthened his commitment to farmer-centric agriculture.
Over sixteen years, Omkar has worked extensively across a wide range of crops including sugarcane, pomegranate, banana, chilli, tomato, ginger, turmeric, cucurbits, paddy, and wheat. His key areas of expertise include soil health management, crop nutrition, sustainable farming practices, and disease management.
One of his most significant contributions has been helping farmers understand the importance of timely interventions throughout the crop cycle. From seed treatment and planting practices to nutrition scheduling and disease management, he emphasizes that agriculture is a science of timing. By teaching farmers what plants and soils require at specific growth stages, he has helped improve both productivity and profitability across thousands of acres.
His work in sugarcane agriculture has been particularly impactful. He has actively promoted improved planting distances, scientific nutrition management, seed selection, and soil health restoration. Omkar was honored with the prestigious “Pride – Crest of Honor” award by National Stock Exchange and Maratha Chamber of Commerce for outstanding achievements as an entrepreneur and for his significant contributions to the growth of the Indian economy.
