The Journey of Kalai Maldives
Chennai, India – 2026
Humble Beginnings in the Maldives
Kalaiarasan Loganathan, popularly known as Kalai Maldives, began his international career in 2020 as an Airport Representative at Velana International Airport, Maldives. His responsibilities included coordinating passenger pickups, assisting international arrivals, managing transport logistics, and ensuring smooth guest experiences.
Working shifts that often extended beyond 14 hours a day, he gained firsthand exposure to real-time tourism operations. Those demanding days shaped his discipline, strengthened his resilience, and gave him deep insight into global hospitality standards.
The COVID Crisis and Job Loss
During the global COVID-19 pandemic, the tourism industry faced unprecedented disruption. Kalai lost his airport job and returned to India during a period of extreme uncertainty. With international borders restricted and travel paused worldwide, he faced financial pressure and an unclear future.
For nearly seven months, he reflected on his path, determined not to give up on the industry he had grown passionate about.
The Turning Point: A Quarantine Opportunity
As international travel
restrictions evolved, many Indian travelers were unable to fly directly to destinations such as UAE, Hong Kong, Canada, and other countries. A mandatory 14-day quarantine stay in the Maldives became a required transit rule.
During this period, a friend approached Kalai for assistance in arranging a quarantine stay in the Maldives for his father before traveling onward to the UAE. Leveraging his Maldives contacts and ground experience, Kalai arranged accommodation, airport transfers, and complete travel coordination.
What began as helping one traveler soon revealed a business opportunity.
Recognizing the growing demand, he started organizing structured quarantine transit packages for Indian travelers. This marked the beginning of his entrepreneurial journey.
From Quarantine Packages to Tourism Brand
After the quarantine season concluded and travel restrictions eased, Kalai had already built strong local contacts and operational networks in the Maldives. Instead of stopping, he expanded.
Using the relationships he had developed, he began offering regular Maldives tourist packages and honeymoon deals. Step by step, he transformed short-term transit coordination into a full-fledged tourism service model.
This steady evolution led to the formal establishment and growth of TheTourist360 — a travel company focused on curated Maldives holidays and premium international travel experiences.
