Every student in India knows the feeling: it is 10pm, there is a concept that will not click, and the next tuition slot is two days away. Edorbion was built for exactly that moment. Live for six months through its web platform, Edorbion is India’s first gig-economy marketplace for education — connecting students who need help right now with verified tutors who can provide it, instantly, online.
The model is built around a single, structural insight: India has tens of millions of college students with genuine subject mastery — engineering toppers, science graduates, commerce specialists — who cannot monetise that knowledge under traditional platforms because they lack a formal B.Ed degree. Edorbion removes that barrier entirely. Instead of credentials, it uses a rigorous skill-based topic quiz. Pass the assessment for your subject, and you are a verified tutor. Your knowledge is your qualification. Nothing else is required.
| Your knowledge is your qualification. No degree. No waiting. Just pass the quiz and start earning. |
For students, the experience is immediate: log in, select a subject and topic, get matched with a verified tutor, and start a session — no subscription, no minimum commitment, no waiting for a scheduled slot. For tutors, it is the gig economy applied to education: earn per session, set your own availability, and monetise knowledge you already have. The platform handles verification, matching, and payments. The tutor simply shows up and teaches.
Every tutor on the platform has cleared a subject-specific assessment before receiving any session requests. Every session is rated. Performance is tracked, and tutors who underdeliver are removed from active matching. In a sector as trust-dependent as education, this verification architecture is not a feature — it is the foundation.
What makes Edorbion’s early traction meaningful is that it has been entirely organic. Tutors have joined because the income opportunity is real and the friction is low. Students have returned because the help is immediate and the quality is consistent. Bilateral organic engagement — in a marketplace at this stage — is the signal that matters most.
Edorbion was founded by Utkarsh Mishra, 22, from Uttar Pradesh — a student who built the platform he wished had existed when he needed it most. That origin is visible in every product decision: the immediacy, the per-session pricing, the quiz-based verification that understands what students actually need from a tutor.
The large EdTech incumbents have focused on recorded courses and passive content. The home tutor market remains unorganised and referral-driven. The space for live, on-demand, verified, affordable academic help — the gap between both — remains largely unclaimed. Edorbion has stepped into it. Six months in, with a live product and a paying user base, it is already the most credible attempt anyone has made to fill it.
