Major Vinod Kumar (Retd) strongly believes that every journey of purpose is shaped by transitions, and his own professional journey has been a seamless movement from education to military service, from uniformed duty to civil leadership, and today into a published authorship. Each phase of his journey has been reinforced by the other thereby his professional journey is a confluence of purpose, service, and creative expression shaped by an unwavering commitment to people around, creativity, and the nation.
His professional life began as an educator, with a clear intent to create a niche by imparting education to destitute learners. Teaching, for him, was never limited to academic outcomes; it was about nurturing confidence, discipline, and an unwavering self-belief to grow, innovate and excel. This early engagement with society’s margins instilled in him empathy and a deep sense of responsibility & traits that would later define his leadership style. Beyond conventional classrooms, his efforts were focused on imparting education to underprivileged learners, believing firmly and acting with conviction that education is the most powerful instrument of social transformation. This phase laid the foundation of empathy, discipline, and responsibility that later defined every role he undertook.
Driven by an intense calling to serve the motherland, he joined the Indian Army, where he spent over twelve years in active service. These years instilled in him the highest standards of leadership, resilience, operational excellence, and team ethos & values that remain integral to his professional identity. The military chapter exposed him to diverse, demanding, and operationally challenging terrains and environments, shaping his understanding of leadership under pressure, teamwork in adversity, and decision-making when stakes are the highest. The Army not only trained him as an officer and professional but also refined him as a human being grounded in values, resilience, and integrity.
Transitioning from military to civilian life, he joined a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU), where he currently serves in a leadership role covering physical security, fire safety, and protocol management. This role allows him to seamlessly integrate his military experience with civilian organizational requirements, ensuring safety, preparedness, and disciplined governance while mentoring teams and strengthening institutional resilience. This phase represents continuity rather than change where military precision, risk management, and people leadership are applied to strengthen organizational safety, preparedness, and governance in a civilian ecosystem.
Parallel to these professional transitions, he has enthusiastically lived his poetic journey, channelling life’s experiences into creative expression. He has been living an equally committed creative journey as a poet and writer. Through poetry, prose, and reflective writings, he captures the spectrum of human emotions, everyday struggles, triumphs, and the silent lessons embedded in routine life. Writing became his medium to reflect on life’s realities, quiet contradictions, and challenges. This creative endeavour culminated in the publication of two poetry books, Emotions’ Rainbow and Unbridled (Vol. 1) (Capturing Quietest Whispers of Life and Loudest Echoes of Love), both available on all leading e-commerce platforms. The books have been widely accepted and appreciated by readers, resonating with their authenticity and emotional depth. As a soldier his life has been a tapestry woven with discipline, courage, sacrifice, and an intimacy with uncertainty that very few can truly understand. Therefore, his poetry, with its depth, metaphors, and emotional undertones, often mirrors the very experiences that define not only his own but a soldier’s life itself. His poems resonate with soldiers because a soldier does not live an ordinary life, he/she lives intensely, deeply, and often on the edge of life itself. His poetry, with its depth and sensitivity, becomes the perfect medium to express the unsaid, understand the unseen, and carry the weight of everything a soldier quietly endures.
Beyond books, he has authored numerous articles for organizational periodicals and social media platforms, addressing themes of leadership, service, discipline, and human resilience. Some of his widely appreciated articles include Physical Security and Fire Safety; An Integral Part of Customer Service, How Poetry Resonates with a Soldier’s Life, and Complacency is the Biggest Enemy of Physical Security. As a public speaker, he has been fortunate to mentor and motivate budding aspirants, helping them navigate their own transitions with clarity and confidence thereby contributing positively to their personal and professional growth.
His journey from education and armed forces to organizational leadership and creative writing reflects a lifelong commitment to service, self-discipline, and purposeful expression. Each chapter continues to reinforce his belief that true success lies in contributing meaningfully to society while staying rooted in one’s values. This journey, from educator to soldier, from civil leader to published author is not a sequence of career shifts, but a continuum of service and expression. It stands as a testament to the belief that when purpose remains constant, transitions do not dilute identity but they deepen it.
