In Delhi, government offices, intelligence agencies and luxury brands rarely have one thing in common except, occasionally, where they order their mithai from.
Tucked inside the bustling market of Kidwai Nagar, near South Extension and AIIMS, Bengali Sweet Corner has quietly become a go-to destination for sweets ordered by some of the country’s most prominent institutions.
Over the years, the shop has supplied mithai to organisations such as the Indian Space Research Organisation, Intelligence Bureau, the Securities and Exchange Board of India, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. Its clientele also includes luxury brands like Hazoorilal by Sandeep Narang and Malabar Gold & Diamonds, who turn to the shop for celebrations and corporate gifting.
What makes a neighbourhood sweet shop trusted by such a diverse set of clients?
The answer lies in a philosophy that has remained unchanged for decades: fresh sweets, made daily.
In an industry where many establishments rely on cold storage and pre-prepared inventory, Bengali Sweet Corner continues to operate with a live kitchen, where sweets are prepared throughout the day rather than stored for long periods.
Customers walking into the shop often see trays of sweets being made in real time from chhena-based delicacies to syrup-soaked classics before they reach the display counter.
The roots of the business date back to 1965, when Ajit Prasad Jain established Bengali Sweet Corner in Kidwai Nagar in 1965.
That legacy continued when Sanjeev Kumar Jain joined his father in 1986, helping grow the business and strengthen its reputation across Delhi’s institutional and corporate networks.
Following the unfortunate passing of Sanjeev Kumar Jain in 2025, leadership of the business was taken forward by his wife Reena Jain, and his son, Aarav Jain, continuing the family’s decades-long association with the establishment.
Today, Bengali Sweet Corner stands as proof that even in a city filled with modern dessert chains and large sweet brands, a neighbourhood shop built on consistency, fresh preparation and trust can quietly serve some of the most influential institutions in the country.
And for many residents of South Delhi, that trust still begins with something simple a box of freshly made mithai from a shop that has been doing things the same way for decades.
